About me

My goal is to teach my students the language they need for everyday use in a fun and innovative manner. I want to support them as long as they require that support with the objective being to make them independent of language instruction.

I immigrated with my family from Speicher, Switzerland to Canada in 1987 and grew up outside of the city of Ottawa.

After I completed my high school degree I studied history, mathematics and German for two years at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. I spent the third year of my BA in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany where I chose my major in German and Classical Studies. I then returned to Canada to finish my BA at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

After my BA I spent a year in Germany with the Pedagogic Exchange Service run by the German Ministry of Culture. I then went on to do my MA in German Literature at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.

Since completing my MA I have also received my Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) and have taught both English and German at schools in Switzerland and Austria.

I'm also a member of the Mosquito Hill Toastmasters club, where I'm working on achieving my Competent Communicator status. In my spare time I also write for several blogs like Newly Swissed, Zurich4You and ZurchExpats.
